Last year the Holdenville, Okla.,
shelter was reported
for failing to
feed animals when a citizen looking
for a missing pet entered the
shelter and alleged that carcasses were present, and dogs and
cats were clearly not being
fed or watered.
Once they have too many
cats and can not afford to
feed and care
for them, they bring them into the
shelter and say they are strays.
When we hear that
shelters euthanize perfectly adoptable
cats, it's easy to forget that the people working there are trying to HELP these pets, but the alternative is often very sad — watching these pets suffer and die from illness that could be treated with funding
for vet care, or starve because they can't afford to
feed all their pets.
We do need to take every possible precaution to keep ALL
cats and kittens safe, which is a valid argument used by many «experts»
for charging a substantial adoption fee; also, to offset a portion, at least, of the cost of
sheltering (
feeding, innoculations, exams, etc.) until adoption, many
shelters have that policy.

shelter is full of sweet, beautiful dogs and
cats, now getting the proper medical care,
feeding, neutering, spaying, etc., while preparing them
for possible adoption to forever homes.
