The same look and
feel accompanies this film, but it doesn't quite have that same dynamic punch that the first one had due to the fact that we now have already seen it used and have seen other movies attempt it as well.

Nevertheless, despite the frequent confusion that
accompanies the watching of these
films, the long view reveals a series that has remained focused on characters,
feeling and filmmaking craft, while often telling this classically inspired story with wit and nuance.
Even the music adds to the
feeling of the
film unlike so many other
accompanying scores.
Everything about this
film oozes class; the 60's setting is beautifully captured with it's attention to detail and strikingly rich photography by Eduard Grau; the slow motion scenes with overbearing sound effects; the subtle changes of colour saturation providing an excellent technique in developing the mood and
feeling of Firth's character and a fitting soundtrack to
accompany the lush imagery.
Even in the early sequences of the
film, before things go south, scene changes and edits are
accompanied by the sounds of guns being loaded, contributing to an intense, suffocating
feeling that violence lurks just around the corner.
The lack of
accompanying score for most of the
film also aids the real world
feel.
Having said that, it
feels more like a documentary that should
accompany the
film on its Blu - ray release than one you'd buy on its own and dedicate its own shelf space to.
Given Allen's strict one - a-year strategy, his later
films are usually
accompanied with a lingering
feeling that he's on autopilot, sticking to themes and dynamics that he's comfortable with, rushing through familiar territory with very little to add.
This
film is perfect for anyone who has ever struggled to breastfeed her baby, who dislikes the over-medicalization of childbirth, who
feels uncomfortable with the pressure of hospital procedures, and who has wondered about the many «gifts» of free formula, bottles, and diaper bags that
accompany many women home from the hospital.
