Thanks to the rigid setup, drivers will
feel every road imperfection, hear every pebble they kick up and curse any concrete highway they're forced to travel.
It is a smooth and easy going car with a pleasant ride, but taking on options will have an effect on the ride: the 18 - inch tires will make occupants
feel road imperfections and the run flat tires will make the ride stiff and lumpy.
That said, the car handled well, even though you pretty much
feel every road imperfection.
(Unlike city driving, where the ride was harsh...

Not exact matches
The ride is pretty well judged, even in Sport, and it doesn't crash over bumps or
feel like it's going to be caught out by unexpected
road imperfections.
They balanced the tyres and most of the vibrations went away, except a knock / vibration I can
feel on the steering wheel at high speeds (100 - 110 Km / h) or sometimes when the
road surface has small
imperfections.
Instead, it delivers fully on its luxury - transport mission, the suspension deftly erasing
road imperfections, the ride cushy and relaxed, the control inputs — from steering to braking
feel — all smooth and solid.
Hit the wrong combination of
road imperfections and it
feels a bit like a skimming stone.
Our test car is fitted with the optional air suspension and over smaller bumps and
imperfections in the
road surface the car is very settled indeed, although bigger potholes and expansion joints did crash through the (very solid -
feeling) structure.
The ride is firm but comfortable, and though you
feel bumps and other
road imperfections, the suspension manages them in a refined way that's as good as what you get in many luxury - badged compact SUVs.
A large convertible need not be sporty, but no one expects to fight with the steering wheel under moderate acceleration or
feel the whole car squirm over
road imperfections.
However, initial shock compression
felt a little too jarring over
road imperfections / expansion joints, low - profile tires.
Like many compact cars, the Corolla has a firm, controlled ride, but there's an unappealing brittleness to the Toyota's suspension tuning and you end up
feeling more
road imperfections than you'd care to.
The steering is clean and finely filtered, not alive exactly but far from a dead weight in your hands, and the ride is incredibly pliant so you
feel isolated from the unwanted white noise of
road imperfections but completely tuned - in to the interface between tyres and tarmac.
Ford has done a commendable job in making the most of this arcane setup, but on broken back - county
roads, the GT500's tail hops and skitters over
road imperfections, resulting in a car that
feels busier than it
feels composed.
Custom tuned for either Luxury or Sport models, the 4 - wheel multilink E-Class suspension provides even more driving
feel for hugging corners tighter or absorbing
road imperfections flawlessly.
And you
feel connected to the
road thanks to a suspension that is improbably good at soaking up
road imperfections without placing you in a floaty bubble.
The Fusion
feels planted in most scenarios, and it isn't upset by most small
imperfections in the
road.
Be warned, though — any
imperfections in the
road will be
felt by everyone in the cabin and passengers really won't thank you for selecting this setting on a long journey.
But in Comfort the ride quality is good, even on big wheels, and the dampers filter out most lumps and bumps, with only serious
road imperfections being
felt inside the car.
The firm ride has plenty of
road feel, revealing bumps and
imperfections in highways that I previously thought were butter - smooth, and then jarring and jostling my body over the rougher surface streets and back
roads around my San Francisco / Oakland stomping grounds.
On the
road, the Terrain provides a comfortable ride, free of jarring responses to
road imperfections and with a nicely weighted steering
feel.
This chassis
feels well sorted, with very good body control and bump absorption, as the suspension takes up even relatively hefty
road imperfections easily without causing you to correct your line.
On the
road, the Outlander's suspension swallowed most of the
imperfections on LA's streets and body roll was kept to a minimum and only at a few times did it
feel a bit too soft.
When driven over smooth
roads in a straight line, the Allante
feels almost as soft and forgiving of small
imperfections as a Cadillac sedan.
I don't know how they managed that but they did with 335is - exceptionally smooth, absorbing all the major
road imperfection and at the same time razor sharp with just heavy enough and firm steering to
feel the
road and keep things under absolute control.
Out on the raod, the Legacy STI
feels precise and composed, never unsettled by even the worst
road imperfections.
That combination provides a smooth, unruffled ride, with enough compliance to absorb most
road - surface
imperfections, yet enough firmness to afford good vehicle control.The steering on the LX is a variable - assist power rack - and - pinion system which gives you more boost when you're parking, but better
road feel at highway speeds.
Over
road imperfections the Edge remains composed and has a nice solid
feeling.
There isn't any softness in the Soul's underpinnings, so potholes and other
road imperfections are
felt strongly in the cabin.
The dampers are great at filtering out secondary ride
imperfections, but the springs make it
feel like you've got a pogo stick at each corner, bouncing down the
road alarmingly.
Both the steering and suspension are tuned on the softer side of things — there isn't much
feel from the
road, so there will be no clipping apexes on a racetrack, but you won't
feel all of the
road imperfections on your daily commute either, and that's what Malibus are designed for.
The Equus cabin is amazingly quiet and its air - suspension ride is tuned to eliminate
road imperfections while still returning a secure
feel on winding
roads.
The suspension is nicely firm, but you
feel most
road imperfections in the seat of your pants.
The chassis is soft enough to defeat railroad tracks and
road imperfections, though this thing doesn't
feel floaty or boatlike, which is an attribute for any kind of crossover.
It soaks up potholes and
road imperfections, but doesn't
feel floaty and the body stays level at seemingly all times.
Even on the Grande's 19 - inch wheels, the seven - seater's ride
feels well acquitted on country
roads, ironing out most surface
imperfections and isolating occupants from external
road noise and wind noise.
Not surprisingly the car shrugs off the worst
road imperfections effortlessly and provides a secure
feel not just in the cabin but through the steering as well.
In the Comfort mode, it makes you
feel like you are floating, it cancels any
road imperfection and lays beneath your feet the flying magic carpet.
Impacts from most
road imperfections are
felt, but the Roadshow staff is split on how close they are to jarring.
The 17 - inch wheels don't
feel quite so harsh when the car passes over potholes and
road imperfections, although every Passat
feels a little jiggly on uneven surfaces.
The suspension takes
road roughness in stride; and you can barely
feel the small bumps and
imperfections in the
road.
It
feels constantly nervous, and even the most benign
road imperfection seems to send it crab - walking for a few feet before it all settles down again.
