Between the
jokey dialog you uncover during missions, the opening thank - you screen, and the focus on user - created content, Volume is a charming game: it's the sort of game that makes you
feel as though if you ever met the lead designer, you'd pretend to like it just a little more than you actually did.
The
jokey tone, then, may work, but by the end, it also
feels like it has been a long distraction from the inevitable way that all of this plays out.

jokey moments that play to the crowd, such as one of the characters musing on whether a mime will make a sound when he is hit with a car.
In some ways, the
jokey, cheesy tone
feels like a predecessor to adventure movies of the 2000s, especially The Mummy and its sequels.
From student work like the
jokey abstract expressionism of «Disintegrating Pig» (1950) he becomes adept at painting interlocking, jigsaw puzzle - like compositions that look partly like exhilarating aerial views but also
feel internalised, elemental, like shifting tectonic plates of colour and form.
