As a designer, I try to put as much of
the feel of a real book into an eBook as possible.

of the relative low - entry costs
of digital to open new avenues to writers.
I love the
feeling of being transported out
of the
real world when I read a
book, and I want to emulate that
feeling with the
books I write.
Indeed, I still read the printed pages - what a wonderful smell, the
feel of real paper, the rustling
of it, the little notes I sometimes write next to the text (or used to), the ability to pass the same
book, with inscriptions, to the children who might pass them on to theirs... and someday, those little hands that hold the very same
book will associate a grandparent with it.
I missed the

feel really strongly that the most important thing for an author to do in order to build a loyal paying (italics) fanbase / readership is to produce good quality works that are publicized properly and to spend time interacting with those
of your readers who you know buy your
books because they came to you in the first place.
When they turn to the back cover and then open the
book, the design must continue to make them
feel comfortable, in the presence
of a «
real»
book in every way.
That's not to say I don't still love the
feel of a «
real»
book in my hands.
Students seem to crave the look and
feel of a print edition, choosing to opt for the heft
of a «
real»
book over digital, even when the ebook edition comes with bonus content.
Also, I
feel like I forget the title
of the
book / name
of the author on things I'm reading — that never happened with
real books.
The trusty E Ink screens that have served you faithfully all these years by helping you read in the broad daylight without any glares or fade aways, that

book, all
of that is about to change and perhaps for the better.

of commentary on society is it (or not) that the «

book felt the need to write and publish her
book under Leonard's name?
As with all the
books of Barbara Freethy that I have read, you
feel like the characters are
real people.
Gertie's Leap to Greatness is another in this line
of books that takes on
real - life problems while keeping its writing true to the
feelings of childhood.
Though I do not see the number
of days being a
real rule to follow - by just outlining the process is sufficient to kill the overwhelming
feeling of writing a
