It's not quite the evolution we hoped it to be, but on the
other hand Carmack and his team show how guns on an
FPS should really feel like, showcasing amazing A.I. and stunning graphics that never fall below the mark of 60 f

During my play time I really
felt as if I was part
of something bigger, almost like I was actually fighting with
other soldiers in a war and not rambo taking on the world like any
other fps game.
I played through a couple
of two - on - two matches (the game goes up to three - on - three), and there was still enough going on in a given match to make the game
feel about as fast - paced and hectic as Gears
of War, while still remaining a good number
of levels beneath Call
of Duty or any
other FPS.
I'm not saying
Other M is a perfect title, but it
feels a hell
of a lot more fun, more Metroid, more involving than Prime's slow, dull
FPS action.
What's to stop if from
feeling like the multitude
of other FPS games?
The levels were as interesting as any
other Halo campaign but due to the better graphics and the ability to climb up a ledge rather than having to jump above it's height it made it great to explore for skulls and collectables, within the 9 hour co-op game both myself and Russ found ourselves venturing off and climbing up different parts
of the maps to see how high we could get or what was hidden away, we came across a few Easter eggs on the way and found some rare or «special» weapons, Halo has always been a
FPS which you have to explore to find Easter eggs etc. but Halo 5 just seemed better than the rest for this, the game flowed well between each level bouncing from blue team and team Osiris following the story to show where paths cross and what each team is doing in between, I
feel like all
of the trailers kind
of pointed the story into a different direction to the way the campaign developed which was surprising and confusing at the same time but none the less it was a great campaign and one
of the best Halo games I have played in many years, I was never a fan
of Halo 4 I thought it lacked everything a Halo game should be but Halo 5 has surprised me and was well worth the wait.
That being said, combat in KZ: Shadow Fall is much slower than
other FPS's out there, since your character
feels heavier and enemies will quickly whittle you down with a couple
of well - placed shots, so each encounter is more
of a skirmish than run and gun.
We're going to ignore the existence
of Federation Force like most Metroid fans and instead state that there hasn't been a new Samus Aran game since
Other M. Now, whether or not this franchise returns in
FPS or platformer form (we'll happily take either) is unclear, but it
feels like the right time for a proper Metroid experience on console.
Dodging, shielding, reloading, and shooting are all timed well with each
other and despite being an
FPS, these mechanics
feel well - translated out
of classic side - scrolling bullet hell games.
