black beans at my local vietnamese shop here in Sydney (Marrickville)- definitely not to be confused with the
fermented soybeans used in
black bean sauce.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy
sauce, sherry, broth,
fermented black beans, toasted sesame oil, cornstarch, and sugar.
So when I was introduced to the idea of flourless brownies made with
black beans, I didn't bat an eye, even when the only
black bean I know is found in a Chinese
sauce, usually
fermented.
