Have your haemoglobin and
ferritin (iron levels) checked
before you self - diagnose and change anything in your diet or lifestyle.
First off,
before you start trying to conceive, get blood work done to check your thyroid levels (TSH, free T3, free T4); FSH & LH (important fertility makers); iron and
ferritin; folate and B12.
Aim for
ferritin levels between 50 and 150, it should be no higher than 150
before you give blood and no lower than 50 after giving blood.
If you suspect low or high levels of iron, have your levels checked with a serum
ferritin test
before doing anything.
