I suffered so many aches and pains on the old mattress that I traded it for
a few blankets on the floor — no wonder she wouldn't sleep on it.

This proves inconvenient, some say, as even though a
few feet of cord are between the connection with the
blanket and the controls, depending
on the placement of your outlet, you still may have to set the controls near your feet or
on the
floor rather than have them near at hand.
They contained a hodgepodge of things beyond the usual essentials, a couple
blankets and pillows since we slept
on the
floor the first
few nights, toothpaste, cat - related stuff... bags of dried garlic chives, dill, rosemary, thyme, parsley, basil, dried peppers, and finally... 10 bulbs of garlic.
If its getting too chilly for swim diapers and cocktails, this activity can be modified to be an indoor playdate, of course, with a wide open living room
floor with a
few toys
on a
blanket.
I have been co-sleeping with my 5 month old son, in our full sized mattress (just moved the box spring away)
on the
floor, very
few pillows (he sleeps at breast level), one
blanket, the mattress is free
on all sides except for the head which is up against the wall (I frequently push the mattress back up against the wall), tight fitting sheet, ect.
While you can simply light a
few candles for the dinner table and crank up the heat, we're big fans of skipping the table altogether and moving the couches out of the way to spread a
blanket on the
floor in the living room.
It's alright to lift your knees a little away from the
floor to help soften your groins; in fact, you can raise your knees a
few inches
on a thickly folded
blanket.
That's one of the biggest pieces of advice I give my design clients — if you are
on a budget, choose neutrals for the big ticket items like furniture and
flooring... and then, when you get the itch to switch, you can do so without breaking the bank by adding a couple seasonal throw pillows, a
few pops of color via florals, or maybe an inexpensive
blanket or DIY project.
