In just the last
few years, nearly every
other major food provider in the country, including Target, Kmart, Kroger, Safeway, and Costco, have committed to ridding their pork supply chains of gestation
crates.
Some puppies need only a weekend to be completely
crate trained, while
others may take a
few weeks.
In order to prevent exposure to disease, puppies with
fewer than 3 or 4 series of vaccinations, should avoid contact with unfamiliar dogs, and be carried (in a Sherpa Bag, Snuggly or
crate) to avoid contact with the sidewalk (or any
other public areas where
other dogs may frequent).
When leaving the adopted dog home alone (even if you have
other pets at home), the use of a
crate or gate is recommended at least the first
few days up to two weeks.
A
few techniques that may be used include basic obedience training, proper leash handling techniques, place training,
crate training, structured scheduling, and elimination of roaming, among
others.
Puppies are naturally curious, and within a
few hours he should wander into the
crate, if for no
other reason then to check out his bed.
We took him for positive - reinforcement - based clicker training with Laura Monaco Torelli, then consulted Dr. Ciribassi for medication that supported that training; and a
few months later our dog Tucker is even more wonderful — he's
crate - trained and can be happy by himself for several hours, truly loves playing with
other dogs at public dog parks, and follows a series of commands that make him a real joy for us.
- Meeting new people of all types, including children, men, crowds, people wearing hats, in wheelchairs, etc. - Meeting new dogs (do not bring your pup to areas with lots of dogs until after 4 months)- Exposure to
other pets such as cats, horse, birds - Teach him to enjoy his
crate - Riding in the car (be sure to restrain him using a
crate or seatbelt for safety)- Being held, touched all over and in different ways, being bathed and groomed - Visiting the Vet's office, groomer, daycare, boarding kennel - Exposure to loud noises and strange objects (example — umbrella opening)- Exposure to traffic, motorcycles, bicycles, skateboards, joggers - Getting him used to being left alone for a
few hours at a time
Some dogs may need a
crate for only a
few weeks;
others need one well into adulthood.
It is what follows that can drain your wallet: buying the
crate and
other necessary supplies; puppy inoculations every
few weeks while the puppy is young; training classes (any where from $ 30 to over $ 100 depending on where you go); annual wellness checks and inoculations; feeding (the bigger the dog the bigger the food bill); medical emergencies (can easily run hundreds of dollars if not more).
We took the shabby old sleeper train from Hanoi to Lao Cai and stowed our motorbike in the cargo carriage along with a
few others, numerous
crates and a variety of live animals.

other way to put it: even if it has a
few issues like occasional sound glitches or any type of loot
