While the majority
of people cite social media platforms such as Facebook or Twitter as their go - to source for news,
readers are inundated with so much content that you'd be lucky to keep easily - distracted eyeballs on your
site for more than a
few minutes.
Although I don't do food blog anymore, your
site is one
of the
few that I still keep on my
reader's list since I first started blogging a
few years ago.
But those ghost
sites were still archived in my
Reader, so for a
few more hours, I could track a
few of them down.

Readers scanning the
site today should take a
few minutes with the Orange County Register story linked under the «In Today's Headlines» section, which reports on some hopeful polling data showing that a growing number
of teachers are in favor
of abolishing their unions and implementing merit pay.
Most
of you are familiar with their «Look Inside» feature that allows potential
readers to see the first
few pages
of a book, but this is only while on the Amazon
site itself.
I decided to figure out SoundCloud (which I heard about through the Joanna Penn interview with Viv Oyolu that I referenced above), interview myself, and embed it on the
reader - related pages on my
site (books, buy my books, etc.) I get pretty much the same
reader questions over and over so I picked a
few of the most common and answered them.
With its claims that it was a
reader - centric
site and not a
site for authors — coupled with the admittedly bad behavior
of a
few authors — Amazon - owned Goodreads became a no man's land
of review traffic for a while.
So while the JManga announcement caused a lot
of angst among
readers who will lose access to manga they had «bought» from the streaming service, the Square Enix shutdown doesn't seem to be causing widespread panic, perhaps because so
few people have used the
site.
With over 4500 new books entering the marketplace every day, it is a challenge for any author to find
readers — and to find
readers who will write a
few sentences
of honest review and post it on Amazon and Goodreads and other
sites.
The next
few apps were super basic RSS
readers that simply provided you the mobile version
of our
site.
While I uploaded my first Microcerpt a
few months back and receive a digest
of the forum posts, I haven't gotten a good sense
of how many
readers actively participate on the
site or view the excerpts.
If Wattpad can provide me with a
few hundred
of those, each
of which reads voraciously and socializes with others that do as well... it could make sense that the largest social media
site for
readers and writers could serve as a successful platform for my super-niche fiction.
Contemplating the purchase
of an E-Book
Reader I checked out prices at various
sites, and was appalled to find that whilst you can buy the print copy
of an older book for a
few pounds + delivery, they wanted the full retail price for an E-Book.
Over the next
few weeks, we're going to talk about how to bring new
readers to your
site in order to gain more loyal
readers and email subscribers — which,
of course, are instrumental to selling your eBooks successfully.
