Another TBD Law will be presented in February, with a serious effort to diversify the group beyond
the few women and people of color there (I was the only black participant).
As Reg Davis of the ABA Journal pointed out in his article about the first TBD Law meeting (TBD1), there were «
few women and people of color there.»
It includes far
fewer women and people of color than does American Christianity at large.

It's asking its companies to do one
of the
few things they can do to get more
women and people of color in the door.
As we watch young African - American characters —
and a
few young white
women, too — mistreated
and / or killed in scenes that go on
and on
and on, it's hard not to wonder whether Bigelow (
and the material) would have been better served by not teaming up with her usual (white) screenwriter, Mark Boal (who also wrote The Hurt Locker
and Zero Dark Thirty), just to bring in the perspective
of actual
people of color, rather than that
of white liberal guilt.
This is the 90th Oscars,
and a
few extra nominations won't undo years
of exclusion
of women and people of color, Hollywood as a whole has to actively work to give more opportunities to those previously ostracized
and make sure a wider range
of stories get told.
According to a major report on art industry sexism that ARTnews published earlier this year, only seven percent
of the 410 works from MoMA's permanent collection currently on display are by
women,
and even
fewer by
people of color.
