Dogs chained for even a
few weeks begin to show problems... Virtually every
dog that spends most of the day on the end of a
chain will show temperament problems...
Chaining, by definition, keeps a
dog in solitary confinement, continually thwarting its pack instinct to be with other animals or with its human «pack».
However a
few months back a situation occurred where a small
dog was off leash and ran toward our Husky who was
chained outside on our property.
Maumelle, Arkansas; Tucson, Arizona; and New Hanover, North Carolina, are a
few communities that prohibit the
chaining or tethering of
dogs as a means of continuous confinement.
And certainly, the dynamic
chain reaction of puppy play sessions is ideal to therapeutically re-vamp the pup's
dog -
dog socialization program, which has temporarily been on hold over the past
few weeks (while the puppy was confined indoors).
Through this program we have even been successful at building a
few secure
dog runs, allowing owners to keep their
dogs safely contained and off of a tether or
chain.
