The seventh generation debuts as a 2017 model and it's going to be special, partly because it's based on the excellent new 7 Series platform — which uses aluminum and carbon
fiber in its body shell.

fiber body shell, and chassis
in common with the McLaren 12C.

in front and back, and the 691 - horsepower, 6.5 - liter mid-mounted V - 12 engine.

body shell mainly formed of aluminum and reinforced with carbon
fiber components
in the areas of greatest torsional stress.
The new
body shell was constructed with extensive use of aluminum and CFRP (Carbon
Fiber Reinforced Plastic), making the 7 Series lightest
in class.
