In Picasso and Fredericks of Hollywood (1990), a
group of disparate characters including an abstracted female borrowed from Picasso, a Fredericks of Hollywood lingerie model, a
figure drawing by an insane woman, and a Mexican woman giving birth in the presence of the devil, are repeated in different colors and opacities creating a sexually - charged narrative.
The heart of the show, featuring Tintoretto's distinctive
figure drawings — both preparatory
drawings and a
group of studies after sculptures by Michelangelo and others — will examine the use of
drawings within the studio as well as teaching practices in the workshop.
Other highlights of the exhibition include her Neverland series from 2002, where she photographed objects, either alone or in
groups, on fields of color;

Certain poses and layouts have expectations.Some of my
figures are
drawn in a small room with a small
group.
Spearheaded by Leon Golub and united by a shared interest in the
figure during a period that is often seen as dominated by abstraction, the
group created deeply psychological works that
drew on classical mythology and ancient art.
Wet French exposes the solitary
figure of the waiter and his customer, both melancholic when confronted to the dynamic
group of jolly amateur artists that in turn
draw cartoons of them.
Whereas the sculptures are based on central characters from his recent films and include papier - mâché heads and multi-faced masks composed from printed steel, the
drawings and dioramas depict these new players standing besides
figures from the artist's earlier repertoire, as if posing for a
group portrait of his ever - expanding roster of protagonists past and present.

Moore's smooth, organic sculptures
draw extensively on the human
figure, notably in the recurring motifs of mother - and - child, reclining women and family
groups.
I especially recommend a
group of
figure studies, the best of which is Reclining Nude (After Shelby Creagh) from 1982, which trades classic linear life
drawing marks for a heavier, angled black line that in many ways can be extended from these early works into the idiom of the silhouette for which he is best known.
