After literally years of being somewhat mystified by the first Pirates
film's beloved status in the
hearts and minds of millions, I'm at an absolute loss in coming up with reasons that the second entry,
Dead Man's Chest, has whipped up these same millions of people into even more of a froth - mouthed frenzy, the likes of which I haven't seen before for a
film this mediocre, even rivaling the collective fervor for Narnia, Harry Potter, and the Matrix sequels.
Crowe never quite finds the
heart of his
film about a man who goes to the decimated front after the end of WWI to find his missing three sons, presumed
dead in the conflict.
It proudly wears its decaying
heart on its sleeve with references throughout to
films such as «Halloween», «Night of the Living
Dead», «Friday the 13th» and so much more.
We've seen the
films about teachers that inspire their students (MR. HOLLAND»S OPUS,
DEAD POETS SOCIETY, MUSIC OF THE
HEART).
If I haven't yet made it clear, Evil
Dead is not a
film for the faint of
heart.

film deals more obviously with the war than Ozu's other
films, one of the family's sons is missing and presumed
dead (the parents, have a
heart - breaking scene discussing his fate.
