There is also the not unimportant matter of the need to communicate to people all over the globe the complexities of American life,
thus contradicting the deliberate «pro-American» falsifications spread by the US

see the delusional State of the Union address), as well as its «anti-American» counterpart abroad (which portrays a contented, prosperous population solidly backing official chauvinism and militarism).
It's one of the most arresting, affecting science fiction movies of the last few years, and certainly one of the best
films to
see release in 2018

The Endless is a horror / sci - fi
film like nothing the cinematic world has
seen thus far and only serves to prove Benson & Moorhead as some of the strongest voices in the world of indie cinema.
Particularly the puppy scene in the beginning and his unselfish bravery in the end,
thus making this movie a most
see for any self - acclaimed dog lover and anyone who wants to
see a good animated
film.
As for «Happy - Go - Lucky,» I think it may creep into Best Actress and screenplay (I've
seen it and think it's a fine
film), but I kept the list at U.S. releases
thus far.
Thus viewers of this disc are afforded a privilege available to almost no one when the
film was new: that of
seeing The Rules of the Game as Jean Renoir intended it.
While «Toni Erdmann» remains the best narrative
film I have
seen in 2016
thus far, «I, Daniel Blake» easily cracks my top 5.
Universal
thus far hasn't decided to explore this area, which is just fine, as few would want to
see a Psycho
film without Norman Bates in it, so it is only fitting that the
film franchise end here.
I would however humbly suggest that the more sordid, id - obsessed, and
thus more interesting
film is the one that you should
see instead, a
film that was too quickly dismissed on the North American continent due in part to its temporal proximity to the Columbine shootings.
Her vividly sensual prose may make the novel a production designer's dream — and given what we've
seen of the
film thus far, it seems a likely awards contender in the design categories — but there should be more at play here than simple visual splendor.
My favourite
film of the year
thus far (that I've
seen, of course).
It presents a future in 2022 that seems unlikely not because we're not currently on the verge of some great ecological disaster, but because rough math suggests that the Heston character would've been born the year before the
film's 1973 release and
thus his declaration that he'd never
seen a grapefruit (or grass, or cows) should worm its way into the audience consciousness as Soylent Green's statement that it's not serious, thoughtful science - fiction, but rather soapbox and screed timed to coincide with, in 1972, the first international conference on climate change.
It's refreshing to
see a filmmaker emerge on the horror scene with a
film so strong that its reception,
thus far, has been almost universally positive.
The Lego Movie remains one of my favorite
films of 2014
thus far, and is a «must -
see» for the entire family.
To make room for these
films they would mostly shut out other
films that were actually doing well in the year,
films that could be called best by anyone's standards, but they were considered not Oscar - y enough and
thus, out they went to make room for
films people had not yet
seen.
Thus, I'm very curious to
see where the director / co-writer goes next, and if he uses this casting to try to build himself up — does working with Guy Pearce (recently of Prometheus, Lockout, and Lawless) mean that Doremus is moving onto bigger
films?
It hasn't been a particularly memorable year at the movies, especially for those in search of a good comedy, so it's a relief to
see a
film like «We're the Millers» arrive in theaters, because although it's not as funny as its behind - the - scenes talent might suggest, it's one of the better comedies released
thus far.
Also just, as a heads - up, Sundance is playing several
films throughout the week that I haven't
seen (so am
thus not including because I find it difficult to write about things I haven't
seen), but I'm interested in checking out myself, including Jindabyne, Chalk, War Dance, Man on Wire, and Intacto, so check out Sundance «s schedule for yourself on those.
Miami Vice — I've
seen Michael Mann's latest
film twice now, and it's easily the best movie of the year
thus far.
And maybe we will
see a late - breaking
film win this year,
thus breaking the pattern that has been set since Million Dollar Baby.
So far attempts to mine other young adult novels have been unsatisfactory both commercially and creatively (
see: «I Am Number Four «-RRB-, and many of the
films launched into development, projects like potential Taylor Lautner vehicle «Incarceron,» Screen Gems ««The Mortal Instruments,» Jonathan Levine «s «Legend» and Warner Bros ««The Scorpio Races,» have
thus far failed to get off the ground.
I've only
seen Hush and Ouija 2
thus far — it looks like Before I Wake has been delayed yet again — but I can say that when taken with his first two
films, the moody Absentia and the excellent Oculus, Flanagan is already at the forefront of the new American horror revolution.
Well, here's a recap of what's been confirmed
thus far, along with some predictions that we may or may not
see in the new
film.
Billing itself as «In The Suspenseful Style Of Fatal Attraction And Unfaithful,» Asunder is every bit the rushed, formula production moldering on a shelf somewhere until either one of its stars hits it big (
see: Ordinary Decent Criminal and Colin Farrell) or, as in this case, a higher - profile
film with a similar theme makes an impact,
thus giving the folks in marketing a hook.
From what we've
seen thus far of director Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the sequel appears to be one of, if not the darkest Star Wars
films of all time.

Will Forte doesn't have a great track record
thus far as a leading man in
films (anyone
see The Solomon Brothers?)
Megan Ellison «s Annapurna shingle has the U.S. rights for the
film, but
thus far no distribution is in place, most likely because no one has
seen the damn thing yet.
The winners are in bold, and the
films I haven't
seen and
thus didn't consider in voting are at the bottom of their respective lists and italicized.
Thus, I'm more excited about
seeing an Ang Lee
film than I am about the 120 FPS.
This
film should perform well,
thus we'll
see a lot more of Alvarez in the future.
It is easily the best
film I've
seen from 2008
thus far, and it may very well be my first animated # 1 movie of the year.
A quick list of the more buzzed about
films at the festival that I didn't get a chance to
see (
thus didn't make my list); Boyhood, Wild Canaries, Buzzard, and 10,000 KM (Long Distance).
I don't want to give anything away to those who haven't
seen the
film, but the pirates aboard The Black Pearl hide a dark secret and the effects surrounding their plight are incredibly well - done and may be some of the most seamless CGI that we've
seen thus far.
The lesson is
thus: how much you like a certain
film is most often determined the first time you
see it — and this judgment can be easily clouded due to certain factors (such as who you
see it with, what kind of mood you're in, whether a screaming baby is whizzing in your ear from three rows back, etc).
Speaking of the ending it seems that shipping Hulk off in the quinjet was both a way to make his own story arc a little sadder and to explain his absence in the forthcoming movies which he
thus far has not been confirmed for, and while I'd love to buy into forum discussion that he's actually been fired into space in order to make a Planet Hulk
film I don't
see it happening, although since Planet Hulk is one of my favorite storylines it would be amazing.
From the scenes and game footage we have
seen thus far, Rockstar has the very essence of the old west, both from a historical stand point and of course some of the most iconic western
films we have
seen over the years.
