The easiest thing to do with Spike Lee's latest work, a «don't call it a remake» of Park Chan - wook's 2003
film Oldboy, is to simply dismiss it.

Oldboy), who aim to use her as one of their «mules» to smuggle their uber - potent drug called CPH4 to other territories around the world.
In the end, though, it is mostly in - jokes that distinguish Spike Lee's
Oldboy from Park's
film.
Less gory and thus easier to stomach than Park's version, Lee's
film lacks the pulsating undercurrent of doom that makes Park's
Oldboy simultaneously magical and sickening.

Having tons of tweets on Park Chan - Wook I realized that by some illogical reason I had yet to see this
film that was a part of his Vengeance Trilogy, and with
Oldboy and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance being two of my favourite revenge / Korean
films, I guessed it would a good idea to complete the set.

Chan - wook Park, the man behind the cult classic
Oldboy will be making his English - language
film debut with Stoker which has finally just gotten a release date of March 1, 2013.
Stoker, (directed by Chan - wook Park,
Oldboy) was a phenomenal
film — its stunning visuals and intense storyline had me utterly gripped throughout, sincerely recommend for those who like Park's style.
Gomez - Rejon has a secret weapon up his sleeve to help differentiate it from the crowd: his cinematographer is Chung Chung - hoon, the favored DP of Korean superstar director Park Chan - wook (the man behind
Oldboy and Stoker and Thirst among many other visionary

By now, you would have seen the official poster for Spike Lee's adaptation of the

Oldboy), Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter), Imelda Staunton (Another Year), Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who) and Juno Temple (Horns).
Final Verdict: Darkly sexual, grippingly told and wonderfully directed, the Handmaiden is not quite
Oldboy, but a strong
film nonetheless.
When people think of Park Chan - wook, they usually jump straight to his most popular movie,
Oldboy, known as one of the leading action
films of Asia, and quite possibly the best Korean
film ever made (not an easy statement to make).
OLDBOY certainly deals with the theme of vengeance, but this is a much more entertaining
film as it masquerades as a mystery
film noir, and lures us into feeling gratification at protagonist Oh Dae Su's (Choi) vengeance.
Oldboy is probably in my top ten
films of all - time.
OLDBOY will most likely forever stand as the
film that all Korean
films will be judged by thanks to its accessibility as a heart pounding thriller and the fact that it's a daring
film with unspeakable shock value which never feels contrived.
OLDBOY is 10 years old this year, hard to believe that a
film can remain so striking after simply dozens of viewings.
