out a Vicky Cristina Barcelona or Match Point, he or she'd have been hailed as the Second Coming, but when it's Woody, we just chalk it up as an expectation, rate it on a comparative scale to his previous masterworks, and move on.
The
film plays as if Payne and Taylor had a great idea for a first act, then were
hit by writer's block and simply pulled a bunch of other ideas
out of a hat.
But that's not the big surprise about the
film: this story of an arrogant, over-the-hill slugger (Mac) who comes
out of retirement to chalk up his 3000th
hit is more of a serious sports
film than a knee - slapping comedy, and Mac gets a rare opportunity to showcase his true dramatic range as an actor.
There is a lot going on in this
film and while it might be considered «too
out there» for everyone to enjoy, I think this
film will
hit big with the
film festival crowd especially those at SXSW.
This
film sounds like it will be a heavy
hitting drama and I won't be surprised if Wilde knocks it
out of the park with her performance.

film noir gatecrashed by reality», as Peter Beech chose to describe In Bruges, Martin McDonagh's biting comedy about two
hit men hiding
out in the Belgian city after a job that's gone horribly wrong.
