As for the feminine side
of the equation, Rachael Stirling, as a Ministry wonk in charge
of making sure the
film does not go off the rails, gives off Eve Arden vibes in natty Marlene Dietrich - style menswear — and on several occasions gives
nudge -
nudge hints
of being proudly lesbian.
The climactic battle, when it comes, however, is surprisingly well done, and might have even served to
nudge the
film up half a grade if our eyes hadn't fallen out
of our heads with rolling at a thing that happens at the end.
Elder is a canny, discerning moderator although he doesn't have to do much
nudging to get his subjects to really get to the heart
of why they love these
films.
