We've gone through the trouble of collecting what the critics are saying about Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and the overall consensus is this may be the best Star Wars
film out of the bunch.
But pick a random
film out of the bunch, and odds are, it will receive some measure of critical acclaim and some type of theatrical release.

One
of the ongoing subtexts, nature
out of balance, is never given the backstory to justify its presence in THE LONE RANGER, but it does offer one
of the
film's best jokes, as a
bunch of cute little bunny rabbit approach a campfire where one
of their number is being roasted for dinner.

The best
of the
bunch is «Dreamcatcher,» which I broke
out into a standalone piece, but here are my thoughts on a handful
of the notable other non-fiction
films in the U.S. and World Documentary programs.
What they find in there is both easy to figure
out (stuff is mutating), beautiful and scary and weird (stuff is mutating) and inexplicable (most
of the why and a
bunch of other side mysteries), explored in a mostly unsatisfactory blend
of arthouse stillness and genre thriller scares, part
of a burgeoning subgenre
of sci - fi
films that I suppose function as a counterweight to the more populist nonsense
of superhero sc - fi.
Sharknado 3 felt a bit like a reunion movie for fans
of the first
film as we find
out what happened to Nova (Cassie Scerbo) who comes back as a bad ass — who at one point took
out a
bunch of sharks with a mascara shotgun (no, really, again.
Set in 1970s suburban Detroit, the
film introduces us to what we hope will be a cast
of edgy, funny characters but who, thanks to a crummy script from writer / director Daniel Schechter, turn
out to be a
bunch of insipid sad sacks.
We managed to fit in 37 feature - length
films and a
bunch of shorts, and we had fun tearing up the dance floor in our pajamas at The Highball and wilding
out to the sounds
of Itchi - O at the closing night party.

Picking our favourite
films was no easy task, but Time
Out's cadre
of film writers are a gritty
bunch and they were up the task.
Throw in newspaper columnist James Stewart and his photographer Ruth Hussey, along with a
bunch of great character actors filling
out the cast, and you have both rollicking wedding preparations and one
of the best
films ever made.
Del Toro brought
out a whole
bunch of different toys in his Hellboy
films.
HGTV has also been
out filming a
bunch of times for a special.
TCM closes
out the Moguls and Movie Stars series, reaching the end
of the classical Hollywood studio system, and has a
bunch of 1960s greats on Monday and Wednesday to go along with that, plus Cabaret on Tuesday, Ingrid Bergman's first American
film on Friday, Frank Capra's Meet John Doe on Saturday, and the always enjoyable Grease on Sunday.
Tommy cranks
out a script, drops a load
of cash on a fourth - rate movie studio and hires a
bunch of film veterans before they've barely finished their introduction.
If some really funny comedies were in your resume, wouldn't you rather go
out on top rather than tarnishing your reputation with a
bunch of mediocre and underwhelming
films?
I think the real standout contender
of the Telluride
bunch is Sally Hawkins, who doesn't speak a word
out loud in The Shape
of Water (note that I said speak), but communicates a wealth
of emotion in that marvelous
film.
We have to admit that we're at least a little excited to check
out Taraji P. Henson's upcoming action thriller Proud Mary; despite the not - especially - great sign
of Sony skipping press screenings for the
film, the idea
of Henson gunning down a
bunch of gangsters in a slickly edited action flick has an undeniable appeal.
Arguably the biggest breakout star
of the
bunch in 2017, Daniel Kaluuya rose to prominence thanks to his featured role in Jordan Peele's horror
film, Get
Out, which saw classic genre tropes removed and more relevant issues like racism infused into the unique plot line.
