Also the
film's
presentation of the villain is only ok but I can't fault that because the movie is limited
by its source material since it's a prequel.
While the added resolution of a 16x9 - enhanced
presentation usually entails additional efforts to keep an old
film looking snazzy, The Shaggy D.A.'s transfer falls short of digital perfection
by a bit.
The Opening Ceremony, wanting to celebrate the festival's 50th anniversary in style, had some great lighting effects, a wonderful MC, a haunting projection on the façade of the theatre (which was transmitted via video into the auditorium), but also a cheesy 3D
presentation, and a
film — Soul Kitchen
by Fatih Akin — that is simply a feel - good comedy with little going for it artistically.
This Blu - ray combo pack is easy to recommend to fans of the
film, whose expectations should be met
by the solid feature
presentation and adequate collection of extras.

By my own rules -
films I've seen that were released theatrically in the U.S. this year - I managed somehow to forget Nacho Vigalondo's monster treat, which I saw last fall as the closing night
presentation at Fantastic Fest.
Its stunning 2.35:1 anamorphic
presentation, supervised
by Cundey, does for this
film exactly what the Cundey - approved transfer of The Fog did for that
film: it resurrects it, transforming a marginal not - recommend in the case of Cimber's
film into a marginal recommend based on the strength of Cundey's gorgeous cinematography.
By appropriating various passages from Hansen's expressive prose, the
film somehow successfully captures the historic aspects of the story — as if it were a legend the audience should continue to pass down through generations — while simultaneously exposing the specious
presentation of the tale through sheer excess.
The digital choice allows the movie to look clean, but perhaps the grain of
film would have been better fitting for the overall
presentation that Baumbach was going for (especially with some of the production design and set decoration (especially the apartments)
by Sam Lisenco and Hannah Rothfield, respectively).
It tackles familiar Rivette absurdisms in the
presentation of plays within
films, searches for lost manuscripts
by Italian humorists, and the none - too - subtle interest in Pirandello.
While I no doubt have been spoiled
by regular exposure to excellent Blu - ray transfers, the 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen
presentation of Swimming to Cambodia seems a tad disappointing even for a standard definition release of a low - budget 25 - year - old experimental
film.
Contrast and color
presentation is excellent - you get the romantic feel of the
film's sunny, colorful setting without ever becoming overwhelmed
by possible «glaring» whites or a too - bright palette.
Fox issued the
film on disc in December of 2002, but as is not uncommon for family
films, it was treated with little regard, receiving a fullscreen and dubbed - only
presentation and being accompanied
by no bonus features.
We've previously only seen the first trailer for the
film, but thanks to a
presentation by the animation studio today, we now have a better idea of the cast, their characters, and just how they'll look in the finished
film.
Patrick Goldstein, writing in the Los Angeles Times, argues that
film critics like Roger Ebert, sophisticated in their knowledge of media
presentation and human behavior, make more insightful political pundits than the usual beltway - bubble spin - docs employed
by television, radio, print and online outlets.

Viewers can choose between subtitled and dubbed versions of the
film, but the discs» default goes to the English - language
presentation, produced
by heavy - hitters Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy.
That style is so strenuously presented, whipped into a creamy foam of guns, Rolling Stones tracks, and expensive cars, that it manages to get
by mostly on vapors, anchored

In the first three quarters of 2014 I saw many of the year's best
films at UK
film festivals, all of which punched well above their weight
by offering smart selections and

Actually, most of the dialogue is campy and explicit, like the first
film, but the sense of daring and style are gone, further compounded
by a rather unremarkable
presentation from director Michael Caton - Jones (City
by the Sea, The Jackal).
