What we do know is that a consensus is forming and
the films listed above, with the possible exception of Sicario, are that consensus one the one side of the room.
Needless to say, as someone who has seen all 10
films listed above, this slate has both sins of omission and sins of commission, in my opinion, but we'll be getting into that more in the coming weeks.
It should come as no shock that the villain is the true hero of Warlock, as was the case in almost all of the horror
films listed above.
Someone may adore one of
the films listed above but hate another for the same reasons.
I probably missed a few, as I was only able to see about 20 of the films at the festival (which is not a lot, since it is possible to see nearly 40 over the festival's 8 days), but suffice it to say, if you're a canine lover, be wary of all

list with Variety reporting that Dominic Cooper (
above) is currently in negotiations to co-star in the
film.
Sifting through the
list above must be daunting for Academy voters, but it's generally agreed that Affleck, Bigelow, and Spielberg's respective
films are frontrunners for Best Picture, and therefore safe bets for Best Director nominations.
Rivaling The Anchorage, the best of the
above listed works, in its combination of utter precision of detail and overwhelming sense of mystery, Côté's
film makes for instructive comparison with the movie it most superficially resembles, Lanthimos's celebrated tale of overprotective parenting gone bonkers.
Believe it or not (I choose not to), but it's hard to avoid seeing the parallels to the plots of the
films I
listed,
above.
In addition to those
listed above, the
film stars Gugu Mbatha - Raw as Meg's mother Dr. Kate Murray, Michael Peña as Red, and Zach Galifianakis as Happy Medium.

Almost impossible to flat out dislike due to ti's unabashed 80's motif, Eddie the Eagle might not soar
above the pantheon of underdog sports
films, but works as a charming, inoffensive addition to the very long
list of fun sports movies.
There's the usual crop of
film awards front - runners to be found here; in addition to the
list above, there is also Michael Fassbender, Eddie Redmayne, Rooney Mara, Rachel McAdams and Kate Winslet, but one or two surprising omissions, especially The Martian, Jennifer Lawrence or indeed anyone from Joy (David O. Russell
films have tended to be garlanded with at least nominations in the past).
Given the currency of contained horror
films and psychological thrillers — «low budget horror
films set within a single location» appears on every «Screenwriters Wanted»
list in Hollywood — it it's no surprise that the
above breakdown sounds so familiar.
On the Internet Movie Database's hip and modern - skewing top - rated
films list, it currently ranks 38th, just
above long - championed works Taxi Driver, Vertigo, and Lawrence of Arabia.
The Director Roundtable features Danny Boyle (Steve Jobs), Tom Hooper (The Danish Girl), Alejandro G. Inarritu (The Revenant), David O. Russell (Joy), Ridley Scott (The Martian), and Quentin Tarantino (The Hateful Eight); directors who were all selected by THR due to the Oscar buzz their
films are receiving (all of the movies
listed above are likely contenders for Best Picture).
There's been a backlash against these
films in recent years (partly levelled at the public school, Oxbridge provenance of the filmmakers), but the fact that most of them ride high on this
list suggests they're still credited with initiating a new age of storytelling in British cinema, both in terms of the range, social and geographical, of subjects and a style of filmmaking that honours realism
above all else.
