I recently dusted off my mom's 1970s recipe for creme de menthe bars and it called for those Nabisco Famous
Chocolate Wafers and I literally went to Albertson's, Ralph's, and Vons on a grocery store scavenger hunt for those things but finally
found them:) Now I know where I can go so I can make your icebox cake!
I usually don't rate a recipe if I haven't followed it exactly, but I thought I would mention that one could eliminate the lavender blossoms, substitute Famous
Chocolate Wafers for the choco graham crackers (if hard to
find) and have a wonderful and easy, and fairly quick special dessert.
Could not
find chocolate graham crackers, so used
chocolate wafer cookies instead.
I just wish that I had used real 70 % dark
chocolate; never use the «dark»
chocolate baking
wafers that are
found at bulk stores, as they are very sweet (definitely not 70 %) and don't taste that awesome.
But, not to be deterred (I really was determined to make this pie), I looked in my file and, thank goodness,
found an old recipe for
chocolate wafers.
