found the
paddle -
shifters to be a bit ticky - tacky, so I mostly skipped them.
I
found that the best way to drive the car was to use the
paddles, launch in second with about half throttle, and short -
shift up in the middle of the power band.

found it worked best on the track when it's simply left in drive; try to use the
paddles and you'll likely have downshifts denied even when there seems to be plenty of space left on the tach.

found out on the twisty roads of Angeles Crest Highway, the updated sedan offers an enjoyable and sporty driving experience despite the lack of a stick — especially when you set it in Sport mode and use its
paddle shifters aggressively.
Some reviewers attribute this lag to the transmission, but I
found that even when I was using our test car's
paddle shifters to force the Discovery Sport to hold a lower gear, the lag was still present.
I still pine for that glorious old naturally aspirated V - 12, and I hope they
find a bit more top - end energy for the BC, I'd still have a six - speed manual over the
paddle shift any day of the week, and I think the car needs a bit more front - end grip and some interior tweaks (primarily some clear
shift lights to help connect with the bruising engine, which sounds similar from 3,000 right up to over 6,000 rpm).
And, call us old timers, but we
find it easier and more rewarding to select the right gear with the M235i's precise
shift lever than with the Alfa's
paddles.

find yourself outside the meat of the power band.

found the
shift paddles to be only marginally useful, which is what I
find with ALL
shift paddles (some day, we're going to look back at
shift paddles and wonder why we thought they were so cool).
It would be surprising if this extended to the fitment of a manual transmission; in fact it's no surprise to
find the SLS has the latest AMG interpretation of the Mercedes 7G - tronic automatic (with
paddle -
shifters behind the steering wheel).
Today's Ferrari 458 Italia marries the shape of aftermarket Momo wheels with buttons, switches, and
shift paddles, as
found in Formula 1 cars.
On those occasions when we operated the transmission manually, we
found ourselves grasping in vain for
paddle shifters, which are not included.
This is the only engine that can be mated with the six - speed automatic (the 125 and 140 models both use the six - speed manual) and while there's nothing intrinsically wrong with the auto its
shift speeds aren't the fastest (although they are smooth) and the steering - wheel mounted
