Pricing a mid-February flight from NYC to London that was booked within a week of the trip, we
found it to cost $ 1,602

First, we used data from the U.S. Department of Transportation to

found a way to reduce the cost of
roundtrip airfare from Jacksonville to London for the NFL International Series from $ 1,077 to just $ 197.60, discovered how to stay at a 5 - star hotel that cost $ 700 + per night for free, and allayed my fears about the impact of the credit card sign - ups that would make this possible.

It costs 25,000 miles for a

finding award seats during high season is another story.
Take a look at some of the
roundtrip redemptions I
found while researching.
Delta has some pretty horrible redemptions to Australia and New Zealand and the lowest I
found when I searched was 220,000 miles
roundtrip.
If you're interested in economy you should be able to
find plenty of open seats; it's just that the deal isn't quite so sweet at 85,000 miles
roundtrip.
Similarly, if you take the example of a
roundtrip non-stop Business Class fare between Chicago and Hong Kong in November, the best fare you'll
find is a crazy $ 7,110:
Now this was a surprise: We
found United heavily discounting first / business class flights between San Francisco and Atlanta, Dallas or Chicago... as low as $ 627
roundtrip throughout the late summer fall.
25,000 miles would probably be the standard redemption for Delta but they sometimes have specials (like right now in September 2016 where you can
find cheaper redemptions for short - haul routes like the 11,000 miles I
found for a
roundtrip from Los Angeles (LAX) to Las Vegas (LAS) or even routes as low as 10,000
roundtrip if you're able to piece it together.
To be fair, I should point out that most other airline programs offer domestic award
roundtrips for as few as 25,000 miles — but it's getting increasingly difficult to
find awards at that level.
Every once in a while they roll out with more open dates but for the most part if you want to
find open business class seats, you'll have to do a lot of searching and will probably struggle to
find suitable options for a
roundtrip (though it can be done).
For a
roundtrip flight to HEL with American + Finnair, I
found flights with only $ 105 in fees.
Pacific Northwest From April to May and September to November, weeklong adventure cruises sailing
roundtrip from Seattle explore the islands, temperate rainforests and hidden coves
found in the secluded waterways of the Pacific Northwest.
The availability is not great, but it only costs 20,000 Avios
roundtrip if you can
find award seats

roundtrip flight will cost you 85,000 miles, but only if you can
find award availability.

Also, although American Airlines does not allow stopovers, the fees are very reasonable and for the
roundtrip business class seats
found above, you'd be paying about $ 73 in total fees!
If you're getting the Optimum rate, it's hard to
find a bad redemption in the S7 Priority program, though flights between North America and Africa, India or the South Pacific are a little steep at 100,000 miles
roundtrip.
Similarly, if you take the example of a
roundtrip non-stop Business Class fare between Chicago and Hong Kong in September, the best fare you'll
find is a ridiculous $ 7,110:
The best fare I've
found is for $ 837
roundtrip which, when you consider that prices are usually in the $ 1,100 — $ 1,300 range, is pretty good.
The most likely way someone will
find value from this sale is by using the miles for expensive short - hop flights like BOS - JFK where a
roundtrip will cost just 9,000 Avios (if you book before the 2 Feb 2016 devaluation) but can easily cost $ 500 + when paying in cash.
Korean Air is also a great option for getting to Asia and if you can
find Business Class awards on Qantas then $ 2,167 + taxes for a
roundtrip fare to Australia is a very good deal.
I specifically love scrolling through the calendar to
find the cheapest
roundtrip ticket.
Below are examples of the range of affordable flight deals you can
find: from short flights between NYC and Atlanta for $ 127
roundtrip, to long international flights between Seattle and Shanghai for $ 404
roundtrip.
This isn't the best deal that you can
find but 100K for a
roundtrip in J to Europe is still cheaper than many other programs.
And yet, try to
find another FF program that can get you to Europe for 26,000 per
roundtrip.
- You can also
find normal,
roundtrip flights from Calgary to Jersey (JER) and back for $ 569
roundtrip.
That's probably going to be the cheapest redemption rate you'll ever
find but even though the fees are reasonable you could get a
roundtrip paid ticket for under $ 120, so you'd be better off just paying cash for an award like that.
I even
found one booking (pictured below) with China Southern for 150,000 miles
roundtrip and only $ 184.96 in fees.
It's not too uncommon to
find 25 % off business class fares to Europe which brings down the milage requirement to 93,750
roundtrip which is excellent.
What's best about this deal is that it is good for spring break travel — we've
found super low, sub $ 150
roundtrip fares on SFO - ORD and LAX - ORD from now through the end of May.
