A good fit between the predicted rates (green traces) and the observed firing rates (red and blue traces) would indicate that activity locked to a particular saccade can largely explain
the firing rate changes seen in the cyclical task.
In order to determine what factors are associated with
firing rate changes, we generated a prediction of neural activity by convolving observed neural activity aligned with one saccade direction with the intersaccade distribution times aligned with the other saccade direction.

This sets off a process called stimulus - timing dependent plasticity, or STDP, which was first explored in animals and led to long - term
changes in the

Whereas place cells in a rat brain may
change their
firing rates if their environment is altered even a little — for example by

How can
changing the
firing rate of the same neurons in one region lead to different effects on the rest of the brain?
«While our findings are consistent with other reported
changes in neuronal
firing rates with attention, they go far beyond such descriptions, revealing never - before tested mechanisms at the synaptic level,» said study co-author Farran Briggs, PhD, assistant professor of Physiology and Neurobiology at the Geisel School of Medicine.
To quantify the overall effect of contrast - dependent
changes to output nonlinearities, we constructed a measure of how these adaptive shifts
change the amount of information a unit's
firing rate carries about the ongoing stimulus (Figure 5F).
The
firing rate of STN neurons appeared to be more sensitive to the presence of mHtt, with lower
firing rates in HET and HOM mice compared to WT counterparts; however there was no
change in mean
firing rate difference found for GP neurons between WT and HET.
Combined with fuel loads, higher evapotranspiration
rates and resulting shifts in water balance may be the best predictor of increased
fire risk and
fire severity in the future under a
changing climate (Littell and Gwozdz 2011; Abatzoglou and Kolden 2013).
This shift of perspective invites a
change of approach: instead of charting average
firing rates of single neurons, we must infer behaviorally relevant neural codes from evolving activity patterns across neural populations.
Nevertheless, the burst properties reported in this study strongly support the idea that the deeper layers of the SC act as an optimal controller: the systematic organization of peak
firing rates and burst durations as function of saccade amplitude along the motor map, the synchronous
change in
firing rate of recruited cells in the population, and the shaping of the temporal burst profile of a given cell with the currently planned saccade, all contribute to the generation of straight eye - movement trajectories with optimal kinematics.
Note that the systematic rostral - to - caudal
changes in mean and peak
firing rates are quite obvious from these discharge profiles too.

Sure,
fire rates and recoil patterns
change, as do the visuals, but weapons fall into broad categories here with little reason to distinguish between them other than preference of iron sights — for example the Waffe 28 is pretty much a copy - paste of the PPSh - 41 and vice-versa.
