academy trusts, several pension experts said the government would ultimately have to cough up should a trust collapse without a new
sponsor — something described as a «extreme circumstance» by John Wright, head of public sector at pensions
firm Hymans Robertson.

academy schools working group, said greater due diligence would ensure the «financial position of the
sponsored school is clear to avoid any hidden nasties coming out of the woodwork at a later date».
