During the Sega Res event that happened in Japan, Sega revealed that it would be bringing
the first Shenmue game and its sequel, Shenmue II, as one collection, which will eventually launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC later this year.
Swan worked as an English teacher in Japan and uploaded YouTube videos about his life and his experiences visiting Dobuita, the setting of
the first Shenmue.
The first Shenmue was released only on the Sega Dreamcast and not many people had played it sadly.

I don't get the crazy hype around a
Shenmue sequel, sure the
first was a great game, but Sega surely wouldn't be capable of making a upstanding sequel, especially with todays budgets and expectations.
This title is relevant because
Shenmue and (its sequel)
Shenmue 2 were two of the
first open world games.
In order to understand why we won't ever see a
Shenmue III, we must
first understand what
Shenmue is as a series.
From the
first instalment, it made you think of games like Virtua Fighter mixed with
Shenmue.
First one would be
Shenmue III, the second one would be Half - Life 3 and the third one, Final Fantasy VII Remake.
After years of development and a budget estimated at 20 million, possibly as high as 70 million, the
first chapter of
Shenmue was released for the Dreamcast in 2000 to critical acclaim and consumer indifference.
Suzuki
first announced the return of
Shenmue in 2015 during PlayStation's E3 keynote, with the last entry in the series having released in 2001 for Xbox and Dreamcast.
After working on one of the
first 3D fighting games (Virtua Fighter) at Sega, he saw potential for the freedom of interactivity in a 3D environment, and went on to create the two
Shenmue games (we fans are still waiting for the 3rd installment).
The original
Shenmue and its sequel released on the unsuccessful (but affectionately remembered) Sega Dreamcast, with
Shenmue II also making it to the
first Xbox in 2002 in the USA and 2003 in Europe.
Way ahead of its time, extremely creative
first party, awesome late arcade titles, online,
Shenmue... It is just the perfect system.
You will even be able to choose English or Japanese voiceovers; this is the
first time
Shenmue can be played with Japanese audio for a global audience.

Ryo Hazuki, the main protoganist from
Shenmue is being immortalised in statue - form by
First 4 Figures.
It doesn't get any easier if you decide to make your Sega Hero a designer (read programmer, coder, producer, director whatever you're comfortable with), it could be the Master mind behind every SEGA console Hideki Sato, it could be the self proclaimed queen of video games (he was joking) Yu Suzuki of
Shenmue fame (I know he has done more, but so has everyone else), and then we have the
First Lady of RPG's Phoenix Rie aka Rieko Kodama it is hard to choose a favorite.
When
Shenmue III was initially announced during E3 2015's Sony Conference, fans immediately began to hope for remastered re-releases of the
first two
Shenmue games.
Many remasters of older games these days typically combine the sequel, if there is one, as doing this not only greatly increases the value of the product, but in
Shenmue «s case, it would eliminate the fear that the
first one wouldn't sell well enough to get the second one remastered.
It's been almost 16 years since
Shenmue 2 came out on the Dreamcast, itself and the
first game being insanely popular.
According to the official description, the
first teaser of
Shenmue III is built from a small slice of an in - development build of the game, and it delivers small peeks in new look of main characters, new characters, and feels of
Shenmue world.
Even with the ridiculous and almost unprecedented hype that surrounded the release of SEGA's mega-budget Dreamcast title
Shenmue, it's tough to imagine that gamers
first diving into the series back then would have any idea how legendary (or infamous) Ryo's adventure would become.
The
first game in the series,
Shenmue begins the tale as Ryo travels around Yokosuka, Japan, gathering clues about his father's murder and dealing with nefarious gangsters along the way.
In the 128 - Bits era,
Shenmue was released and introduced the
first open world game ever created.
Games like Otogi, a From Software hack and slash in a mythical Japan; Crazy Taxi 3, the most advanced of the series containing the entirety of the
first two inside of it; Gunvalkyrie, a third person shooter platformer with an in - depth movement system; and perhaps SEGA's most requested re-release besides
Shenmue, the venerable Jet Set Radio Future.
It's part graphic adventure, part
First Person Shooter (sometimes in a bipedal mecha), part one - on - one fighter, part body swap puzzler, part platformer (with swimming sections), all contained within a Grand Theft Auto /
Shenmue - style 3D world framework... It's too bad most of these sections can not stand up on their own.

With
Shenmue III right around the corner, many fans have hoped to see HD remasters of the
first two
Shenmue games beforehand.
The
first time I played a game in the Space Harrier series was when I played the original arcade game on
Shenmue for Dreamcast.
