first ten minutes; there are plenty of quality
movies with less than auspicious beginnings.

Stylistically,
First Reformed is shot and edited like an
art movie, its look and tone aligned with the chilly minimalism of the «slow cinema» Schrader has theorized and canonized in his work as a critic.
This is an impressive
first film, and it will be interesting to see if Legrand's path takes him towards more cut - and - dried horror, or the chin - strokey, cynical social realist
