The discovery that the identification and biopsy
of the
first lymph node to which a
cancer spreads (the sentinel node) can lead to more accurate
diagnosis and treatment has revolutionised the management
of breast cancer.
This may be because, at the referral center studied, there is a dedicated program that provides support and counselling, focusing mostly on
breast cancer patients within the
first year
of cancer diagnosis.
The analysis
of treatment costs in the
first year after a
breast cancer diagnosis included 955 women with these tumors who were under age 45 as well as 134,427 similar women who weren't diagnosed with
breast malignancies.

of study enrollment for controls), age at
first birth, number
of children, birth
of a son, history
of breastfeeding, miscarriage, abortion, oral contraceptive use, smoking status, age at menarche and number
of cell equivalents tested for detection
of FMc.

first mammogram by age 40 and every one to two years after that to help ensure that any tumor is caught early, when its most treatable.
