Global Focus series featured the
first solo indoor
exhibition of Pakistani artist Imran Qureshi in a U.S. museum, and a major
exhibition of pioneering filmmaker, director, and theorist John Akomfrah.

Gordon Cheung's
first solo
exhibition in Dubai, «Lines in the Sand», presents a series of large scale multimedia works that explore the shifting boundaries of the empires of
global capitalism, and the manipulation of cartography and geography by superpowers to gain control over new territories, resources and trade routes.
This
exhibition examines for the
first time the artist's career in relation to his European roots and travels, establishing Cole as a major figure in 19th - century landscape art within a
