to go with your baby if they need any special care outside of the delivery room.

If this is your
first baby, or you haven't delivered at the
hospital you are planning on, it is always a good idea
to do a test run and see not only how long it takes you
to get there, but
to make sure you know exactly where
to park and go once you
get there.
Studies there (sorry, don't have any references on hand, I'll try
to get them posted later) show that home - birthing in this setting is just as safe for mother and child for a
first birth, and safer for next births, than a
hospital setting.

to put in my 2 agurot:) When my
first child (now 11) there was much less awareness about breastfeeding in general in this country and unfortunately I myself knew little about it and
got ZERO support from the
hospital.
The
first thing she said when she
got to the
hospital — before telling them her name — was, «I want an epidural.»
I bet all the people on here who think
hospitals are «gross» and doctors and nurses are monsters trying
to take their money, would be the
first ones
to sue if there baby
got sick or hurt during delivery.
If you deliver your baby at home, take your newborn
to a local
hospital, clinic, or health department in the
first few days of life
to get blood drawn for screening tests.
Many women, particularly
first - time moms,
get into false alarms and trips
to the
hospital.
One last thing I wish I had done was
to get in touch with the lactation consultants in my
hospital to find out what pumping facilities were available while I was still pregnant, rather than waiting until the
first day back from maternity leave and scrambling
to figure this out while overwhelmed about being back at work.

Hi, for us, we thought the baby would sleep the

get a visit from a community nurse a few days after
