Apart from public worship in church or chapel, of which we shall speak separately, the most important
times of private
prayer are upon awaking, at bedtime, before meals, at irregular intervals through the day, and in a regular, uninterrupted, unhurried period which can be
fixed for any convenient
time but which ought not to be left to the mercy of circumstance.
I believe in the «
times or seasons which the Father has
fixed by his own authority» (Acts 1:7) I believe that in fact God does act in the world, that he raises up prophets, that he answered Israel's deepest
prayer for deliverance and sent his son.
I had just returned from St. Bernard Abbey, where
for three days I participated in
fixed - hour
prayer, attended mass, joined the faithful in chants and hymns, wandered an ornate sanctuary, lit candles before alters, murmured the Lord's Prayer, repeated the Nicene Creed, dipped my fingers in holy water, crossed myself about a million times, and ate, slept, worked, and prayed beneath giant crucifixes that hung just about every

I enjoy spending
time with family, traveling as much as possible, reading to learn and just
for fun, music and films from around the world, gardening and bird - watching in my backyard, working with my husband on our
fixer - upper, walking, biking the NCR trail and the peaceful solitude of
prayer and meditation.
