For my Pure Fuel post today I decided to make a trail mix with a mixture of
nuts, ancient grain cereal,
dried fruit, coconut
flakes,
and dark chocolate covered espresso beans!
As variations, you can add cocoa nibs,
dried coconut,
dried fruit, hemp hearts, maca powder, sesame seeds, toasted rolled oats or quinoa
flakes, different grain puffs, chia or flax seeds,
and various
nut butters.
I used a wide variety of toppings, including: India Tree nature's colors sugar sprinkles in marigold,
dried cranberries,
dried tart cherries, salted almonds,
and trail mix with
nuts,
dried fruit, seeds,
flaked coconut,
and dark chocolate chips.
Top it with frozen berries, spices,
flaked coconut, flax seeds,
dried fruit, pecans,
and other
nuts.
Add 1 cup
dried fruit (raisins, cranberries, blueberries, papaya, or mango, chopped as needed); 1/2 cup
nuts (such as peanuts, cashews, almonds, or pistachios), salted or not; 1/4 cup pumpkin seed kernels;
and 1/4 cup unsweetened
dried coconut
flakes.
Make chocolate bark: Pour leftover chocolate into a shallow puddle on parchment or wax paper
and sprinkle with chopped
nuts,
dried fruits, crushed candies, crumbled cookie chunks, a pinch of sea salt
flakes, etc..
TRAIL MIX: I make my own very simply by mixing together my favourite
nuts and seeds — cashews, almonds, pecans, coconut
flakes,
and then adding some
dried fruit in too: raisins, figs,
and dates.
I prefer to make press - in cookie - type crusts (or sometimes I use
nuts,
dried fruit,
and maybe some unsweetened coconut
flakes instead for a healthier option).
Fold in 1 cup of the
dried coconut (reserving 1/2 cup of the
flakes)
and fruits or
nuts of your choice,
and the bread pieces.

Having looked at a few recipes online, I just opened my
dried fruit and nut drawer
and grabbed a few desirable ingredients, namely, coconut
flakes, chia seeds, coconut flour, sliced almonds, cacao nibs,
dried peaches, peanut butter
and agave.

Then I measure
and they dump in 4 cups unsweetened puffed - grain cereal (we like a mix of rice, kamut, corn,
and / or millet), 1 cup old - fashioned oats,
and 1 1/2 cups
dried fruit,
nuts, seeds,
and / or unsweetened shredded or
flaked coconut into a large bowl.
When it was first developed, muesli was typically a
dry cereal made from toasted whole oats,
nuts,
fruit and wheat
flakes.
I decided to use unsweetened coconut
flakes as the base
and add some
nuts and maybe
dried fruit.
Trail mix made with crispy

flakes,
dried fruit and just a splash of carob or chocolate chips to make it extra special.

Take fresh
fruit, raw
nuts and seeds, kale chips, baby carrots
and hummus, a yogurt (preferably unsweetened
and organic, or dairy - free coconut yogurt), or take homemade trail mix (I like to mix coconut
flakes, goji berries, raw cashews,
and other
nuts / seeds / unsweetened
dried fruit).
And feel free to swap in different
nuts, seeds or additions like large -
flake coconut or
dried fruit.
Nuts,
nut butters, coconut
flakes and coconut butter, spices,
dried fruit... the flavor variations are endless.
If
nuts and seeds are not allowed in the room do coconut
flakes or toasted coconut chips
and dried fruit!
