While I agree with Kristen that blogging makes us write «leaner, meaner, faster, and cleaner», so does short story writing, so does
flash fiction writing, and so does a few rounds with an experienced editor over your novel.
Flash fiction writing advice so often focuses on moderation — on cutting out needless words, creating this myth of a world where every word matters, where the writer exerts complete control over every choice.

Don't be alarmed — that's a shorthand that I think I've just invented for
writing flash fiction.
I spent quite a bit of my weekend
writing, signing and packing up books, editing for an upcoming anthology,
writing a piece of
flash fiction for another anthology, responding to emails, etc..
I
wrote one for last year's National
Flash Fiction Day, and I'm going to
write one again this year.
I tend to
write flash fiction pieces in one sitting — a bit like freewriting — and then edit the hell out of it afterwards.

Last fall, after nearly six years dabbling in creative
writing, I thought about how I had produced dozens of
flash fiction, blog posts, and essays, but no novels.
Good writers can pack a universe into a piece of
flash fiction and bad ones can
write paper - thin characters and hackneyed prose across 200,000 words.

This isn't specific to books anymore, it's about all kinds of
writing: articles, blog posts, poems, short stories,
flash fiction, novels, memoirs, nonfiction books... all of it.
With
flash fiction I was able to move past the fear and get back to novel
writing.
Thus, when
writing flash fiction, you need to keep that in mind.
Talking
Writing publishes short stories or
flash fiction in some issues.
What I like about lyricists who are truly skilled is that they must
write with clarity, brevity, and enable listeners to «fill the gaps» in emotion, atmosphere and ideas, much like the art of
writing short stories, and the more recent popular
flash fiction (not to mention nano
fiction).
