the fleece layer (allowing the shell to be reused), or as a pocket, the insert can be stuffed inside to provide a stay - dry barrier layer and a one - piece diaper experience.
The pee goes through
the fleece layer and gets absorbed by the soaker, and the surface of the fleece stays mostly dry to the touch.
The one feature that was a love / hate for me is the opening in the lining at the front; it really helps for insert placement which is great but I found I had to constantly tuck
the fleece layer back into the front of the diaper; did not affect function but a bit of an annoyance if your kid isn't wearing clothes over their diapers.

fleece layer, and that's going to be the side that's against your baby's skin and then in - between those two sewn together layers you slide into the pocket, an absorbent piece, which can be cotton, hemp, microfiber, bamboo.
