Reopening on 10 February 2018, the renewed Kettle's Yard has undergone a major building project to create improved
exhibition galleries, a new
entrance area and café, and a four -
floor education wing.
The site - specific work «Ground Control» by Ögüt transforms the
entrance floor into a controlled public space, an intervention that will remain following the end of the
exhibition.
Free tours of this
exhibition take place Thursday through Sunday at 3 p.m. and begin at the
exhibition entrance on the second
floor.

Opened in 2009, the center — which spans five
floors of Palazzo Boccella, a 16th century palace located in the historical heart of Lucca, not far from Piazza dell» Anfiteatro — features an
entrance lobby, eight special
exhibition rooms, encompassing a total
floor area of 217 square meters / 2,335 square feet; a restaurant; a gift and book shop; staff offices; meeting rooms; and an archive.
A large horizontal building houses all main spaces, including most of the
exhibition galleries; its ground
floor accommodates the
entrance lobby, the main court, a restaurant, a museum store, and a children's gallery, all accessible free - of - charge by the visitors.

The
entrance to our
exhibition space is on the ground
floor and is flat level, and the secondary gallery space is accessible via a ramp for wheelchair users.

Architectural
floor plans for those 44
exhibitions, captioned with the title and dates of each one, are displayed in a small gallery at the show's
entrance, providing a key to what visitors are about to see.

entrance to the second
floor, where the
exhibition begins.
While UMOCA takes advantage of various
exhibition rooms within its space, the museum's central focus is the sprawling main gallery, visible from the public
entrance on the top
floor and accessible by traveling down the staircase to the lower level.
Both
exhibition spaces are welcoming and approachable, offering fantastic ground
floor frontage and direct
entrances onto the busy street.
The west facade, the main
entrance, is made of milled laminated glass on a rigid frame system, and the east facade is composed of a corrugated black metal panel system and transparent glass.The most striking feature of the building is the inventive use of a moving
exhibition space that can serve as an extension of the gallery
floor.
At one end of the first
floor is the challenging retrospective by hard - to - parse Isa Genzken, while closer to the main
entrance is the newest
exhibition, «Bouquets: French Still Life Painting From Chardin to Matisse.»

floors, that are walked on by regular traffic (e.g.
entrances, commercial kitchens, hotel,
exhibition and sales rooms).
