Her books remind us that when we are engaged in abstract, theoretical reflection we occasionally need to ground our thought in the particular and historical, and by that grounding to find out if our theories work; likewise, when we are caught in
the flow of particular events and historical experiences, we need to pause long enough to consider where we are going, what all these particulars add up to.
Looking at the Arctic ice
event this year, it seems to me that a major part
of that
particular problem came with warm waters
flowing through the Bering Strait into the Arctic Sea.
