A
fluorescent dye is a substance that can be added to a material or a solution to make it glow when exposed to certain types of light. It helps scientists and researchers see and study various substances more easily.

The group of imaging specialists led by Prof. Michael Schäfers, Coordinator of the Cluster of Excellence, labelled the cells thus obtained with various
fluorescent dyes in order to be able to study them in living organisms — initially with the optical method of fluorescence reflectance imaging.
She and her colleagues designed 24
different fluorescent dyes by varying the triple carbon — carbon bonds, triple carbon — nitrogen bonds, and isotope content to create different colors.
Green fluorescent dyes in this microscopic view mark the presence of the glucose transporter, GLUT1, on the surface of lymphoblastoid cells which go on to form the lymphomas caused by Epstein - Barr virus.
Researchers get these benefits without having to change their existing fluorescence - labeling protocols — so live - cell, superresolution images can be captured using
conventional fluorescent dyes.
New Scientist TV Among our videos this week: a simulation reveals how the Achilles tendon gives humans the ability to run more efficiently than any other primate; a lab - based tsunami simulator improves our understanding of their destructive force; and how injecting crayfish with
fluorescent dye shows that males get turned on by urine
The scientists exploited this molecular mechanism to construct a tumour - specific probe called POL - N (Protein transduction domain [PTD]- ODD - Luciferase - Near - infrared [NIR] dye) which contained: 1) the ODD core, 2) a PTD for intracellular delivery, 3) red - shifted luciferase, and 4) a
NIR fluorescent dye with peak emission around 700 nm.
Huang, Benkovic and colleagues
put fluorescent dye into one of a pair of almost touching cells and watched the dye move into the neighboring cell through tiny protein channels established between them, demonstrating how chemical communication might be tracked using this device.
The authors then tested the tumor targeting capability of iPSC - EPCs labelled with the near -
infrared fluorescent dye DiR in two established mouse breast cancer models.
Special
fluorescent dyes help to visualize neurons (magenta) and germ cells (green) in the roundworm's body.
Now, thanks to three inventors from Buffalo, targets made of ice and colored with
glistening fluorescent dyes (opposite) may have a profound effect on the clay - target market and revolutionize shotgun shooting.

pours fluorescent dye into waters beside Russell Glacier in western Greenland.
This gate is activated only when the filovirus sequence is present, but the Marburg sequence is not; activation cleaves a substrate strand labelled with a
pink fluorescent dye.
The antineutrino detector KamLAND, made up of nearly 2,000 light sensors placed around 1,000 tons of oil and
fluorescent dye buried in a mine cavern in Japan, recorded roughly one antineutrino a month generated by the decay of uranium 238 and thorium 232 deep within the planet.
After the light passes through the sample and the objective lens, an emission filter blocks all light except for that emitted by the green
fluorescent dye specific to the TB bacilli.
To detect malaria parasites, for which a
reliable fluorescent dye has not been developed, the LED and two filters are removed and researchers use conventional light, or brightfield, microscopy to illuminate the sample.
When exposed to the red,
fluorescent dye rhodamine B little dye accumulates in the cells and tissues of the fish embryos because Abcb4 prevents uptake of the dye as can be seen in the image above.
Small
organic fluorescent dyes, nanocrystals («quantum dots»), autofluorescent proteins, small genetic encoded tags that can be complexed with fluorochromes, and combinations of these probes are highlighted.
Tagging the calcium ions with
fluorescent dye makes it easier to watch them fire in real time, but it doesn't tie them to specific neuronal populations.
Briefly, samples were labeled with Cy3 or
Cy5 fluorescent dye, normalized to 10 pmol of incorporated dye, and hybridized overnight using the Agilent Gene Expression Hybridization kit (Agilent Technologies, Santa Clara, California).
