The
debate over
abortion (most recently
focused on what are called either «late - term» or «partial - birth «
abortions, depending on your position) reveals a reluctance to look at the facts surrounding both sides
of a serious issue out
of fear that one might discover or publicize a fact that does not support one's stance.
Debates about this will easily generate much more heat than light unless the energy
of both sides is
focused on the right question, which is: «Given that 200,000
abortions a year is far too many, how can a deliverable change in the law most effectively reduce that number?»
Activists on both sides
of the
abortion debate tell POLITICO they've never seen a legislator pursue Planned Parenthood with such a single - minded
focus.
