Too often we
focus upon the depth of our repentance rather than the depth of Gods love in rescuing us all, I read recently that repentance is not as much about saying sorry and turning from
sin as it is recognizing what it cost God to save us and that he was the one who took the initiative and not us.
Some to judge would carry with them tendency to
focus upon the hate love bears (i.e., hatred of
sin, injustice, evil...).
Rauschenbusch presumed the solidarity of humankind, and
focused upon the effects of that solidarity in the transmission of
sin such that each generation is predisposed to evil.
A little detour for levity's sake is hardly a
sin — if it is one at all —
upon which we should
focus our criticism.
