focuses on bioethics as it relates to questions in public health and health policy (rather than, for example, medical ethics).

If this is what it means to be human, it may be no surprise that
bioethics — concerned as it is with Bios — should, especially at its most philosophical,
focus so much attention
on the beginning and end of life,
on birth and death.
In the early days
bioethics focused on such larger issues, but the field was in time overtaken by an interest in what can be called regulatory
bioethics: the protection of research subjects, the advancement of patient rights, and the devising of procedural guidelines for end - of - life care, for instance.
To this end we (1) partner with precollege science teachers to develop and produce innovative Internet - based curriculum supplement materials
focused on genetics, biotechnology, and
bioethics; (2) update and expand teachers» knowledge in these areas through professional development programs; and (3) engage precollege students in science enrichment experiences.
