The Samsung Galaxy X has been rumored ever since Samsung showed off
a foldable display at the Consumer Electronics Show 2013 in Las Vegas.
A select group of VIPs was reportedly shown the company's prototype with
a foldable display at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, according to ETNews.

at SID Displayweek 2018 in May - and will also hopefully demonstrate this new
display.
Tianma demonstrated its flexible and
foldable AMOLED

Samsung isn't the only company working on a
foldable or bendable
display; South Korean tech giant LG unveiled an 18 - inch
display that could roll up like a newspaper
at CES 2016.
Rumors of a
foldable phone have been swirling around Samsung (SSNLF) ever since the company showcased a flexible
display at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2013.
The
display was made by Samsung and by looking
at the positive market response it may adopt OLED based
displays for its own devices, especially its
foldable display smartphone.
Not much else is known
at this time, but with Samsung preparing to produce
foldable displays in January as well, it's clear that competition is about to heat up.
Considering Samsung's proven track record
at mass - producing new
display tech, it seems plausible that the electronics giant can deliver on a
foldable, flexible smartphone.
Research and development has been happening for a long time, but
foldable displays still aren't
at the stage where they can survive three years of the bends.
Samsung has introduced
foldable display devices
at CES 2013 and also completed and showed the device in CES 2014 Private meeting.
On November 17, Lee Chang - hoon, vice president of the business strategic team
at Samsung
Display stated during the event they would»... be able to supply products with
foldable displays to customer companies by the end of next year.»
Apart from
foldable OLED panels, Samsung and LG also showcased their other
displays at CES.
Apart from flaunting the potential of
foldable smartphones
at MWC, Samsung is also reportedly giving select individuals a glimpse of the prototype to test the water while also promoting its subsidiary Samsung
Display to other firms.
It's unclear
at this time what the first
foldable smartphone from Samsung will have to offer other than the
foldable OLED
display itself.
The
foldable design could allow Samsung to use larger
displays on its phones, especially since the South Korean company has recently unveiled a prototype of a rollable OLED screen
at the SID 2016 event in San Francisco.
At this point, Samsung already has a working prototype complete with a
foldable display.
Unfortunately, that's what such reports always say, and even if the
foldable display is on, well,
display at CES, there's no way to be sure that is actually the case.
At the same time, the next version of Android will reportedly play nice with various form factors, such as devices with
foldable displays or multiple
displays.
LG is going bold this time
at the Consumer Electronics Show 2016, where the company is all set to showcase the largest
foldable display ever possible...
