Cut down the long,
folded edge of the fabric to create two separate pieces.
On
the folded edge of your fabric, mark your waist radius measurement from the top point of the fabric.

Fold fabric right sides together (the short way), and stitch a seam 1/2» from the
edge of each side.

Sew the body
of the holder:
fold the
fabric in half so that it's 6» by 10» (or whatever your measurement was) and sew along two
of the three raw
edges, leaving the top open.

Usually they are formed by
folding over the front
edges of the jacket or coat and sewing them to the collar, an extra piece
of fabric around the back
of the neck.

All
of the visible
fabric edges are surged, and I believe the lining hem is surged prior to being
folded over and hemmed, as there is a bit
of extra surging thread peeking out at the hem.
Piping is a trim or
edging formed by sewing a thin strip
of folded fabric — typically bias binding — into a narrow tube and attaching it to the
edge of a piece
of fabric.

At the touch
of a button, the
fabric top panel slides back on rails — rather than lifting and
folding — stopping first just at the
edge of the roof.
I also took the flap
of fabric hanging over the end and
folded it up twice then sewed along the
edge.
I start to define the shape
of the curtains by darkening the area in shadow and then softening off the
edge with some clean water in my brush: this will accentuate the
