I am at the beginning stages of a winter base training plan and want to build my aerobic engine substantially
following the MAF method, both on the bike and running.
I have been
following the MAF method for over a year now as a result of damaging myself in multiple ways from OTS.
What I would do is
follow the MAF principles.

MAF Test and re-take the Overtraining Survey in order to figure out whether the
following month of training should include an anaerobic component.
Since a few months I
follow Phil's advice to skip oatmeal and bananas as well, and I only train on my
MAF HR rate.
During the first weeks of
MAF training, during which I did not really
follow any particular dietary regime, I lost weight and gained a little «performance» on my runs.
For instance, I've been doing a «Body by Science» resistance workout once a week
followed immediately by a few 30 sec exercycle sprints with 5 minutes warmup, interval and cool down; a full day off for recovery since this is fairly intense and then 3 or 4 times a week I'm doing 30 minutes on exercycle at
MAF (180 — age 59 = 121 HR).
If you figure out your
MAF heart rate by
following the formula and train accordingly you should continue to see huge health and performance benefits!
After seven days of
following the 2 week
MAF program to a «T», I drank a chocolate milk after a 4 + hr, and moderately punishing bike ride.

following the guidelines dramatically cutting carbs, eating 8 to 10 servings of veggies / fruit a day and not caring so much about fats (only the good ones though) and training exclusively aerobically at or under my
MAF.
Afterward, I would begin training 30 minutes, starting with nothing more than a 15 minute warm - up to
MAF,
followed immediately by a 15 - minute cool - down, 3 days a week (with light activity the rest).
Do you think running with the
MAF method only would allow me to keep running or do you think I should
follow the doctors orders and quit running to recover?

MAF disconnected, the car has been running excessively rich (causing the deposits on the spark plugs) and also further downstream the lambda probe in the exhaust.
