One of the highlights of this project was to develop and test
procurement models using U.S. Department of Agriculture's guidance on geographic preference, school
food purchasing and bidding
requirement that work for both school districts and farms /
food producers.
The 2008 federal Farm Bill allows schools to specify «local» as a bid
requirement for
foods purchased with Child Nutrition Programs funds, making it easier for schools to change long - standing
procurement practices.
