for me to bring
food to, and
do a drive - by snuggle
for, my friend who just had a
baby) so this is a fitting time to share the next in an editorial series I am working on with Tufts Medical Center.
She is keen
for me to be involved with the
baby, and I am making sure I

foods, don't be afraid to let him or her mash this and chew on a few little pieces here and there to experience the texture difference between these bites and pureed
foods.

Doctors don't usually have much knowledge about infant nutrition as they recommend solid
food much too early and they tend to favor cereals as a good
food for babies.
Many different parents and caregivers have had great results with a variety of first
foods, and you don't have to feel as though you're stuck only serving your

Since there are so many reasons why a
baby's stools may start to smell, the best you can
do as a parent is to look

baby on ground (don't pick up); gentle (don't hit); put your toys away; etc..

baby may look like they are having trouble with certain

For all three of our
babies, we
did a combination of soft finger
foods and purees, depending on the day and situation.
While
babies over six months start experiencing with solids
foods, it is only preparing them
for transition and generally,
do not provide all the required nutrients.
Though it doesn't require you to consume some special
foods all the time or avoid certain
foods and drinks as long as they are healthy and safe
for the
baby, some restrictions are still there.
While infant cereal is one of the most common first
foods for babies in Western culture, it doesn't have to be your starting point.

You should also pay attention to the numbers on the jar: don't buy
baby food intended
for an age older than your child.

Remember that the American Academy of Pediatrics advises «exclusive breastfeeding
for at least 6 months,» but to prevent iron deficiency anemia, the AAP
does suggest that exclusively breastfed
babies be supplemented with oral iron until they start eating age - appropriate iron - containing
foods at 4 to 6 months of age.
