While the methods and medium of video art has changed with the progression of technology, contemporary artists like Sadie Benning, Miranda July, Eve Sussman, Stan Douglas, Douglas Gordon, Martin Arnold, and Pipilotti Rist continue to explore unique and innovative uses for video.

The inaugural recipient is the Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania, for a exhibition of film, video, and sculpture by Cauleen Smith in autumn 2018.

On display are a video of a red flag that is actually white; a video with a lawyer, describing the preconditions for a private museum of contemporary art in Bulgaria; barriers that almost completely fill the gallery space; and an entrance door that can only be opened from outside.

In 2010 The Hepworth Wakefield, Wolverhampton Art Gallery and Film and Video Umbrella were awarded the Contemporary Art Society Annual Award for Museums: commission to collect for their proposal to work with artist Luke Fowler.
