This has been a particularly difficult thing
for Nell because she struggled with

Our core team are all moms with small kiddies, and between us we've faced just about every
breastfeeding challenge there is, from attachment
issues, low supply, pumping at work, and pumping
for prem bubs.

breastfeed well and build and maintain a good supply, or mom is struggling with chronic

breastfeeding, it's best to forget that
for now (and the breast milk quality
issues above can be dealt with through supplements, which some, who can afford them, may find to be a less stressful approach).
This is not an
issue about how old but an
issue about the need
for people to see it more and giving the women who do want to
breastfeed past babyhood, the support they need to reach those goals.
And while government and media support
for breastfeeding has increased since 1999, and the AAP has
issued stronger and stronger statements supporting the process in recent years, a study conducted in 2004 found that pediatrician support
for breastfeeding had actually declined.

Women with such
issue might find
breastfeeding difficult as it makes the latching hard
for the baby which hinders successful
breastfeeding.
Is your child very sick all of the time (because breastmilk is best
for that), is your child not growing at the rate expected (then there are tests which need to be done that have nothing to do with
breastfeeding), does your child have some developmental
issues that need to be looked at (again which will have nothing to do with the fact that they are
breastfeeding or not).
So no matter what you're planning
for your birth and
breastfeeding, arm yourself with knowledge about all the other possibilities, like how to have a successful
breastfeeding relationship after a c - section, exclusive pumping, tongue tie / latch
issues, boosting milk supply, and even formula feeding.

for babies, but how many mothers know that not
breastfeeding may have significant consequences
for their own health too?
She has had feeding
issues since birth, and finally started fully
breastfeeding at 9 mos and I have been proud to keep up my supply
for her.
This is the person who's going to be your biggest cheerleader and so if you're having challenges with
breastfeeding this will be the person who says «Well let's figure out how to solve these
issues so that way we can make this process so much comfortable
for you».

Tongue tie refers to an unusually tight or short lingual frenulum which inhibits normal function of the tongue and can be a literal pain
